Weekend reading (interesting photography articles for the weekend)

Weekend Reading: #1 – Portraiture

Weekend reading brings you interesting photography links every Friday.

The theme this week is portraiture.

Read about Stephen Dupont’s White Sheet project at Monovisions. This article caught my eye because the photographer has taken a simple idea and turned it into an extensive project. His portraits from Papua New Guinea in particular are fascinating. There’s an interview with Stephen Dupont about the project on Cliquephotos.

Stephen Dupont’s project has echoes of Richard Avedon’s In The American West project. Richard Avedon is one of the great portrait photographers, and there is a lot we can learn from him. You could start with Eric Kim’s article 5 Lessons Richard Avedon Has Taught Me About Street Photography.

For something different, check out Dina Goldstein’s Modern Girl series, a modern reworking of the iconic advertising posters of 1930’s Shanghai.
